India “interested” to welcome 2030 Commonwealth Games, intends to bring back Glasgow 2026 – Firstposts sports.

After having expressed its desire to host the Olympic Games in 2036, India says that it is “interested” in carrying out the Commonwealth Games for the second time in 2030, and bringing sports that were axes of the 2026 edition in Glasgow, a source from the Ministry of Affairs of Youth and Sports said on Friday.

If India succeeds in its offer, it will join a handful of nations that have hosted the quadrian multidiscipline sporting event all once.

“We are interested and a formal interaction took place with the Federation of Commonwealth Games on this subject. We have also proposed that all the disciplines that have been deleted from the CWG 2026 are held in India, “the source said to the press agency Press Trust of India.

Sports such as hockey, badminton, struggle, cricket and shooting were abandoned by the organizers of the Commonwealth Games next year in Glasgow, Scotland. In total, 10 disciplines, nine less than Birmingham 2022, were kept in order to maintain the event budget.

Development, announced in October of last year, was a blow for India because these disciplines (with the exception of cricket, which was almost never included) represented most of their medals at the CWG as well as at the Olympic Games and Asian Games.

“This has been proposed to ensure that our medal count does not suffer. An informal proposal has been set up, we will see how the host city reacts there, ”added the source.

The 23rd edition of the Commonwealth Games will take place in Glasgow between July 23 and August 2, the city having previously organized the event in 2014.

The accommodation rights for CWG 2026 had been initially allocated to the state of Victoria in Australia in 2022. The Prime Minister of Victoria Daniel Andrews confirmed in July 2023 that the state fell, leaving the Quadrian games which were limited to the former colonies of Great Britain without host for more than a year.

India had previously hosted the matches in 2010 in Delhi, in which the host country had finished second on the table of points with 38 gold, 27 silver and 36 bronze.
