India has booked its place in the men’s and women’s team archery events for the Paris Olympics later this year. Qualification was confirmed after World Archery updated the team rankings on Monday.

After failing to qualify, India topped the rankings among the nations not qualified to seal their quotas.

India will be eligible to participate in all five medal events in Paris – men’s and women’s teams, individual and mixed categories.

In the men’s team event, India and China made the cut, while in the women’s event, Indonesia was the second nation, after India, to secure a quota.

The men’s and women’s team events will feature 12 teams, while five teams will compete in the mixed event.

For the first time, team quotas are offered to the top two nations after the three qualifying rounds.

The first Olympic qualification took place at the World Archery Championships in Berlin last year. There, South Korea, Turkey and Japan qualified in the men’s category while Germany and Mexico secured their places in the women’s division.

The second leg was a continental qualifier. Kazakhstan and South Korea won the Asian men’s and women’s team quotas, respectively, while Colombia and the United States were eliminated from the Pan American team. In the European stage, Italy (men) and the Netherlands (women) obtained quotas.

The final Olympic qualifier took place in Antalya, Turkey last week. Mexico, Chinese Taipei, Great Britain for men; China, Malaysia, Great Britain and Chinese Taipei received quotas in the women’s section.

Dhiraj Bommadevara, Ankita Bhakat and Bhajan Kaur will make their Olympic debut, while for Pravin Jadhav it will be his second consecutive Games after Tokyo.
