India and UAE will shape changing world order: Jaishankar

Dubai: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday affirmed that India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will play an important role in revamping the world order.

During his speech at the inauguration of the UAE 2022 Indian World Forum, Jaishankar affirmed that India and the Arab state are two ancient civilizations that have coexisted for centuries and are now rediscovering ancient ties.

Jaishankar pointed out that in addition to booming bilateral trade and a growing share in the global economy, India and the UAE also play an important role in the geopolitics of the Middle East with their involvement in the group I2U2, also known as the West Asian QUAD.

“I would cite the establishment of the I2U2 mechanism comprising Israel, the UAE and the United States as another example of how the altered relationship between India and the UAE is beginning to have a wider impact. The fact that it fits into the transformations that are independently taking place in this region and often helps to advance the direction of that transformation,” Jaishankar said.

“So the image I see today of India and the UAE is of two nations that have known each other for a long time but have rediscovered the relationship over the last decade. We use the relationship today. not just to survive in a changing world, but to shape it,” he added.

Underlining that India and the UAE have taken their economic cooperation to a new level in the past few years, EAM asserted that the relationship with the UAE is of particular importance to the Indian government.

“The UAE is now India’s third largest trading partner. It is our second export market. More Indian citizens live in the United Arab Emirates than in any other country abroad. So, whether we are talking about people or business, the United Arab Emirates has a special importance in our outlook.

“After Prime Minister Modi’s visit in 2015, a visit that took place after more than four decades, we have actually seen a real transformation in our relationship. As I pointed out, our trade and investment have certainly increased,” Jaishankar said.

“If we were to talk about the return of history to this part of the world, a very natural example of this is the India-UAE relationship. There are times when we can sometimes have a different perspective. quite subtly between us,” he added.

“So when I look at the return of history and the relationship that will continue in the coming days, I would definitely rank the India-UAE relationship very high in that regard.”

The India Global Forum UAE 2022 is a five-day gala event that will bring together leading political, business and cultural figures from India, the UAE and around the world.

It is the first major international event following India’s assumption of the G20 presidency, and will be held in Dubai and Abu Dhabi from December 12-16.

India officially assumed the presidency of the G20 on December 1.

Covering the scope of bilateral relations between India and the UAE, climate finance, technology and investments, the five-day event will also be an opportunity to discuss India’s global aspirations and its presidency of the G20 in a difficult geopolitical context.

The India Global Forum UAE 2022 will also provide opportunities for businesses and entrepreneurs from both countries to work together for regional and global impact.

“It is more important than ever for nations, companies and influencers to seek common ground and work on positive outcomes for global impact. Our UAE edition of the India Global Forum, which is the first major global event following India’s assumption of the G20 Presidency, will do just that,” said Prof. Manoj Ladwa, Founder and Chairman of India Global Forum, quoted by the PTI news agency.
