The cost of eggs has left one of Los Angeles’ most famous cold meats to follow. The Delicatesen-Restaurant de Langer in Westlake last week started to charge customers 50 cents more by ordered.
“I tried to wait and wait in the hope (the price) descends,” said owner Norm Langer. “But it will continue to increase.”
The average price of a dozen eggs on a national scale has skyrocketed in the past year at a record summit of $ 4.95 in January, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. In California, the situation is worse, with some grocery stores billing $ 9 or more for a dozen eggs and limiting the amount of eggs that customers can buy. The culprit, according to experts, is an avian influenza epidemic that thinks chicken populations as well as wider market forces pushing prices for the basic foods of the grocery store.
Langer said that the increase in egg dishes prices was temporary and that it does not increase the cost of other menu items, including the famous hot pastrami sandwiches.
In addition to eggs, the increase in products of products and other articles continue to put pressure on his business, said Lange. More than 100 notable restaurants closed in Los Angeles in 2024. The owners cite labor costs, delivery costs of delivery and health insurance costs as an obstacles in progress.
Langer said that he did not know how long he was going to continue to invoice the additional 50 cents for eggs. He said he had heard that he could take months to build herds of chicken. So far, he said, customers have forgiven.
“All the comments that come back to me is:” Norm, we understand “,” said Langer.
