In Rennes, a Saturday evening under close surveillance – Rennes

Opponents of pension reform do not want to reduce the pressure in Rennes. At the call of several radical groups, a “festive” gathering took place at Place Sainte-Anne at 9 p.m. Saturday evening. This meeting, the call for which was also relayed on social networks by groups of students and high school students, was held under very high police surveillance.

After an evening of post 49.3 riots which ravaged the old center on Thursday evening, the police crisscrossed the entire sector on Saturday. The device was simply impressive. Several groups of police and CRS patrolled on foot in the Sainte-Anne district from the afternoon and many trucks were parked in the surrounding streets.

Arrived as reinforcements on Friday, 60 men from CRS 8, a unit specializing in the management of urban violence were also present to prevent further excesses. They should stay in the Breton capital at least until Monday.

A smooth evening

In the end, the rally went smoothly. Up to 300 people gathered in the square at the height of the evening in a festive atmosphere. The tension only rose for a few tens of minutes, around 10 p.m., when the police, who had remained in the background until then, checked several people in the crowd.

After this episode, the atmosphere quickly calmed down and the evening continued peacefully.
