In Madhya Pradesh, 39 Congress leaders expelled for opposing party candidates – Firstpost

These expelled leaders are contesting the elections either as independent candidates or on the ticket of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Samajwadi Party (SP) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), a party statement said.

The Madhya Pradesh Congress party has debarred 39 leaders from its core members for six years for contesting the upcoming state assembly elections against the party’s official candidates, a party official said.

These 39 leaders were expelled from the Congress on the directives of the party’s state unit chief Kamal Nath, according to a statement issued by the party’s state vice-president Rajiv Singh.

These expelled leaders are contesting the elections either as independent candidates or on the ticket of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Samajwadi Party (SP) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), a party statement said.

Among the prominent names against whom action has been taken are former MP Premchand Guddu (Alot), former MP Antar Singh Darbar (Mhow), former MP Yadvendra Singh (Nagod), party spokesperson of the state Ajay Singh Yadav (Khargapur), Nasir Islam (Bhopal North) and Amir Aqueel (Bhopal North).

Elections to the 230-member Madhya Pradesh assembly will be held on November 17.

Although the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is trying hard to remain at the helm of the country, the opposition Congress is working hard to oust the saffron party from power.

The polls are important for both the BJP and the Congress in Madhya Pradesh as it will be the first set of elections after the formation of the opposition grand alliance against the BJP, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections of next year. The state elections will also be a test for current Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who faces opposition to power.

The BJP has been in power in Madhya Pradesh for 20 years.
