Gymnast Morgan Price on Friday became the first athlete from a historically black college or university team to win a national collegiate championship.

The Fisk University student captured the title with an overall score of 39.225 – and became “the first USAG collegiate national champion from an HBCU!” » said Gymnastics in the United States. She was among athletes from 12 varsity teams who competed at the 2024 USA Gymnastics Women’s Collegiate National Championships in West Chester, Pennsylvania.

Price joined HCBU’s first intercollegiate team at Fisk University in Nashville in 2023 after graduating from high school. She initially enrolled at Arkansas before joining Fisk, ESPN reported, after coach Corrine Tarver asked her the simple question: “Do you want to make history?”

Since its inception, the gymnastics team has attracted high-profile media attention, competed on ESPN, and sold out its competitions.

“I learned that it’s nice to be around your culture. Since we’re the first, we have a lot of eyes on us and our support system is great. Seeing the fans and little girls cheering us on was super fun “, Price announced in 2023.

His team celebrated their victory with a social media post saying: “THE PRICE IS RIGHT. Carve his name into the HISTORY BOOKS.”

Price will compete in the individual event finals on vault, bars and floor on Sunday.
