IMAX and AMC Entertainment have expanded their partnership to deploy laser technology on 80 larger screens auditoriums in the United States
AMC will add 12 new IMAX locations and upgrade 68 to IMAX with laser. Once the installations are completed, the giant theater channel – currently one of the largest IMAX operators around the world and the largest in the United States – will be the largest IMAX national circuit in the world of Imax with laser at 180 locations in the United States.
IMAX with the laser is a laser projection and a 12 -channel audio system with high images and a sound. The agreement, announced at the annual conference of Cinemacon exhibitors in Las Vegas, marks the largest systems agreement that IMAX has signed in the United States since 2018.
“Around the United States and the whole world, filmmakers and film buffs hold the IMAX brand in such high esteem as a high-end theatrical spectacle, which is reflected both in the success that AMC and IMAX share together, and in the vast catalog of content of IMAX,” said AMC CEO, Adam Aron.

The director general of the IMAX, Rich Gelfond, described the agreement “a powerful validation of our efforts to strengthen our technology, expand our content portfolio and consolidate our global platform position for impressive experiences … We are excited more AMC customers will have the best of what IMAX has to offer – from Universal City to Lincoln Square, and everywhere in both.”
AMC has eight of the ten most profitable IMAX places in the United States and the averages per screen per screen. The Odeon cinemas in the channel is the largest IMAX partner in Europe with four of the five main Imax locations in Europe.
AMC and IMAX signed their first agreement in 2007.
