Illinois Richardson Farm Tulip Festival to open in April – NBC Chicago

As April approaches, Illinois is starting to show its colors again: reds, yellows, purples and more will fill tulip fields across the state this spring.

Richardson Farm, located at 909 English Prairie Road. in Spring Grove, will host its fourth annual Tulip Festival this spring. Although the festival date will depend on the weather, event organizers expect the festival to open in late April.

“Even though the best estimate at this time is April 25, the exact opening date of the festival still depends on the weather,” a press release states. “A certain number of days above 40 degrees are required for flowers to bloom.”

This is also the first year that daffodils will be present at the event, the release said. Last fall, 50,000 daffodil bulbs and 350,000 tulip bulbs of more than 40 varieties were planted.

“It’s spectacular,” said George Richardson, a farm operator. “It’s spring’s first burst of ‘wow’ color.”

The festival will feature live music, food trucks, outdoor games, access to flower fields and a wine tasting bar, organizers said. Once open, the festival is expected to be open from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

Ticket prices are $16 per person Tuesday through Friday. Saturdays and Sundays cost $19 for ages 13 and up and $16 for ages 4 to 12. Children aged 3 and under are admitted free.

Each ticket holder can also receive a free tulip during their visit.
