‘I was crying my eyes out’ – Ryan Garcia broke down crying just hours before Devin Haney fight

Ryan Garcia admits he was “crying to death” before his fight with Devin Haney.

“King Ry” pulled off a monumental upset Saturday by dropping Haney three times en route to a majority decision victory at the Barclays Center in New York.

Although the 25-year-old entered the fight as a significant underdog, there was immense pressure on his shoulders.

Garcia’s heart had been questioned after seeing his knee against Gervonta Davis last year.

And a loss to Haney would have meant another arduous rebuilding process to get back into world title contention.

So, despite the confidence in his step when he entered the ring, Garcia admits he had to overcome his demons before climbing the ropes.

On Wednesday, Garcia posted three tearful photos on Twitter, taken earlier in the day before the fight, with the caption: “Emotions before a huge fight don’t judge.

“I must have cried out. Don’t get me wrong.”

He then added on an X Space: “No one knows that I was crying my eyes out before the fight (Devin Haney).

“I couldn’t contain myself, the pressure was overwhelming. But I needed that scream.

“I just want to show people what it feels like before a big event. I had to let it scream, and then I felt better.”

Garcia’s title has undoubtedly risen since he upset the odds against Haney, but his quest for a world title continues.

Haney’s WBC super lightweight crown was supposed to be on the line in the fight.

However, Garcia made himself ineligible to compete for the green and gold bracelet after weighing 3.2 pounds over the 140-pound limit.

Garcia is now expected to move up to welterweight for his next fight, as “King Ry” insisted his body can no longer drop below 143 pounds.

Garcia has mooted a fight against Britain’s Conor Benn, while ‘King Ry’ is also eyeing a fight with WBC and WBO super welterweight champion Sebastian Fundora.
