Vandana Katariya, one of the most emblematic female hockey players in India, announced her international hockey retirement, ending a 15 -year career in Zenith in her success.
At 32, Vandana leaves behind an illustrious heritage, with 320 international appearances and 158 goals, making her the most capped player in the history of Indian female hockey.
In an emotional Instagram post, Vandana wrote: “Today, with a heavy but grateful heart, I announce my retirement from international hockey. I move away not because the fire in me fell or hockey in my tank has been dry, but because I want to stop at the zenith of my career, while I am still at my best.”
His decision to retire is aware: “It is not a farewell born from exhaustion; it is a choice to leave the international scene on my conditions, with my head high and my stick always flamboyant.”
Vandana expressed her gratitude to those who supported her, including teammates and mentors. She also paid tribute to her late father:
“To my deceased father – my rock, my director – without you, this dream would have remained out of reach.”
Although she retired from international competition, Vandana does not move away from sport.
“I don’t hang up my stick; I will continue to play, continue to score and be inspired in India League hockey and beyond. ”
Her passion for the game remains strong and she plans to continue to make her mark on the lawn.
“Today, I retire international hockey, but I advance each memory, each lesson and each love of love you have given me. Thank you for being my family, my fuel and my teammates forever in mind,” concluded Vandana.
