The legendary tulip fields in the Netherlands have always appeared on my list of buckets.
Last year, the famous Keukenhof park in the country saw more than 1.4 million visitors from around the world. However, the trip has always been out of reach for me because of the travel cost and the calendar.
This is why I was so excited to discover that the biggest Tulip Festival in the United States was located in the northwest of Washington, a little over an hour north of Seattle.
After seeing the one-month event called “North-West Netherlands” by the festival executive director, I knew I had to visit the Skag Valley Tulip Festival. This is what it was.

The Valley Tulip skate festival is made up of four of the region’s flower bulb farms, all their own events and celebrations. Entrance to each farm generally varies from $ 13 to $ 20 per adult.
To avoid heavy crowds generally found on weekends – and save a few dollars – I visited the festival during the week.
I started my trip to Roozengarde, which has around 200 types of tulips. I stopped in the very busy parking lot and I saw that a giant row of green hedges blocked the epic views I knew was on the other side.
I followed the panels to a ticket office, which was perfectly located for the pleasure of viewing, and my first taste of beauty to come. I paid $ 15, plus the tax, for my ticket, which did not allow you to return.

Once I have exceeded the ticket office, I saw a replica of a Dutch wooden windmill surrounded by bright flower tulips.
Behind that, I saw the magnificent fields of floral tulip tulips and the waterfall chain, which served as a breathtaking backdrop to the whole scene.

Once immersed in the tulips, I finally slowed down my excited rush to enjoy the beauty of the millions of flowers around me. I examined more closely an individual tulip to see the surprisingly fine details of petals and coloring.

The whole field gives the impression of a short patchwork of 50 acres with crunchy rows of a plain color ranging from yellow to purple, and from bright barbie pink to my absolute favorite: shiny red tulips.

Then, I stopped at the display gardens to see a shocking range of landscaped flowering bulbs, planted in an expert manner to show potential buyers what they can recreate in their own gardens.

I looked at an absolute desire and wanted to have a garden to justify the purchase of a few bulbs.
In the end, I started and ended my experience at the Tulip festival only in Roozengarde because I completely immersed myself in the endless fields.
Do I regret it? No, especially since the other three farms were much lower but billed ticket prices similar to Roozengarde.
If you have time and you don’t mind paying the admission price for each place, I strongly suggest that you visit the four farms of the Tulip Skag Valley festival.
They are all close to each other and are worth ending a unique trip that you will not forget any soon.
