I Tried Google’s New Swiping Tool for Clothes, Shoes

  • Google’s new shopping tool lets you swipe left or right on clothes.
  • After swiping right a few times, Google will offer you recommendations based on your preferences.
  • This feature is part of several new updates aimed at improving the shopping experience.

Since moving to New York a year and a half ago, I’ve had to seriously cut back on my shopping habits.

But I still spend over an hour each week researching new trends on Pinterest, browsing new collections at my favorite fashion retailers, and checking to see if old items are on sale.

So when I heard about Google’s new shopping feature that lets you swipe left or right on clothes, I was intrigued. I spend a lot of time searching individual brand sites, so it would be helpful to have a more centralized source of personalized results.

The update started rolling out on March 27, and you may need to adjust your phone’s settings to get it.

First you need to make sure you’re signed in and your personalization controls are enabled. Next, you need to make sure that Web and App Activity as well as Personal Results are enabled.

So far, the feature works for users in the United States on mobile browsers and the Google app. The company has not announced when it plans to roll it out in other countries.
