Last week, the NFL officially published its 2025 calendar. For the Pittsburgh steelers, there are obviously some key scenarios. One of them is Aaron Rodgers, who seems likely to sign with the team but has not yet put the pen on paper. During week 8, the Steelers-Packers match is scheduled for Sunday evening.
Although Rodgers is not on the list of Steelers, the former quarter of the Steelers Ben Roethlisberger thinks that the League had it in mind during the creation of the calendar, in particular this Steelers-Packers match.
“Packers at Steelers, it’s Sunday-night,” said Roethlisberger in the episode of his Podcast Footbahlin. “I know that the league came out and said that it had nothing to do with Aaron Rodgers, more on Mike Tomlin. I do not agree with them, I think they lie. They want ARONON to be in this game, of course.”
Roethlisberger refers to a statement made last week from Mike North, vice-president of planning and planning for the dissemination of the NFL. He mentioned that the Steelers calendar is “built for coach Tomlin”.
It could be true. It doesn’t matter who is their quarter-arre, the Steelers have remained one of the most emblematic franchises of all American sports. They will get their share of games during great listening hours each year.
Looking at the calendar, however, it is difficult not to wonder if the potential arrival of Rodgers could have played in the thought of the league. Of course, Steelers and Packers could have been in the Sunday evening match, given how historic the two franchises are. However, putting the old Rodgers team against their new team in an autonomous match and Prime Time would be excellent for all games.
Packers are not the only match in the Steelers slate that plays in this theory either. Pittsburgh opens its season on the road to New York Jets. The fact that Rodgers plays his most recent team, against a quarter of a quarter to Justin Fields who also plays his former team to open the season, has a meaning. Putting the jets and the steelers on the first Sunday of the season looks like something that the league would have done if they expected Rodgers to sign with Pittsburgh.
This game could really be a revenge game for both parties. Fields has said nothing negative on Pittsburgh since his departure from the city. However, he would probably be happy to stick him to the team that clearly appreciated him that New York did not offset it. Rodgers was also frank of his dissatisfaction with the way in which his time ended with the jets. There would also be a lot of motivation for him.
Again, the Steelers being under the spotlight is nothing new. And North could very well tell the truth that they built the Tomlin calendar after all. However, the way these two games are planned is interesting. It is difficult to think that the League does not want to play in the Rodgers aspect of each match.
