LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A Las Vegas mother is charged with attempting to kill her youngest child by drowning her in the bathtub of a “dirty” home, police said.
Desiree Mason, 31, faces charges of attempted homicide with the use of a deadly weapon and child abuse, court filing data has confirmed.
Police said they were known as Friday at a condominium on Charleston Boulevard near Christy Lane in the East Valley by a mother who said she ‘almost abused her own child’ and ‘ couldn’t take it anymore,” officers wrote in the paperwork.
Officers responded to the condo, believing Mason had tried to drown the 15-month-old baby, they said. Responding officers noted that the child had a dirty diaper and the tub was working.
While talking to police, Mason told officers she held the child underwater for about 30 seconds. Police said the child “was about to start inhaling water”.
The little one was taken to hospital and it was decided he was not injured, police said.
Famous elements of the condo police were “dirty,” with multiple trash bags obscuring the condo floor, an overflowing kitchen sink, and “a refrigerator drawer” on the counter with “what appeared to be gravy.” frozen with mold growing on it.
Officers decided that “the house was held in a manner unsafe and unhealthy for humans or animals, especially for a child crawling and playing on the floor,” they wrote in the report.
In court Saturday, Judge Holly Stoberski set Mason’s bond at $50,000. Mason remained incarcerated at the Clark County Detention Center Monday afternoon. If she is released on bail, she cannot have any contact with her daughter.
