“I support fracking, and I stand up, and I support fracking”

Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman (D), who is running against Republican Mehmet Oz for the open US Senate seat, says he ‘supports fracking’ despite previous statements in which he opposed the Hydraulic fracking.

During Tuesday night’s debate, Fetterman repeatedly said he supported fracking throughout Pennsylvania.

“I support hydraulic fracturing. I support fracking,” Fetterman said. “And I stand up and support fracking.”

In several past statements, however, Fetterman has said he opposes fracking in Pennsylvania and has even pledged to support a statewide fracking moratorium.

“I support a moratorium on fracking in PA until we get an extraction tax and the toughest environmental regulations in this country,” Fetterman said in a 2016 online statement.

Similarly, in 2016 and 2018, Fetterman said he did not support hydraulic fracturing.

“I don’t support fracking at all, and I never have,” Fetterman said in 2018. “And I have, I signed the pledge not to fund fossil fuels. I have never received a penny from any natural gas or oil company whatsoever.

“I am not in favor of hydraulic fracturing and I have said that if we did things right in this state, we would not have hydraulic fracturing. Industry is a stain on our state and our natural resources,” Fetterman wrote in a 2016 post.

“But yes, of course I worry about the viability of a ban on fracking when the industry is already so entrenched in Pennsylvania,” he continued. “Like Sestak, I demanded the same thing – a moratorium. I signed the Food and Water Watch Pledge to End Fracking.
