For years, I have considered the term “all inclusive” as a red travel flag, which means a too expensive experience that would sacrifice quality for gluttony.
When I think of all inclusive seaside resorts, I would imagine a generic space filled with abundant equipment (but just OK) for the masses and travelers of bland buffets or slamming enough cocktails to have them for their money.
To be fair, these are my hypotheses mainly built on stereotypes. I never went into an all understood because I didn’t think they were my style.
When I travel, I lean to stay in chains with a trusted inheritance, like a Four Seasons or W hotel, or a local charming hotel.
The idea of spending my whole trip confined to an all -inclusive property worked to me also because of how much I like to explore the local scene of a region for food and pleasure.
However, after my first involuntary stay in an all -inclusive complex, I was impressed, obtaining new respect for the concept. I hate that I liked it.

I trust my traveling companions to choose where we are staying, but I did not expect one of them to reserve rooms in an all -inclusive station for two nights on the four that we spend at Riviera Nayarit on the west coast of Mexico.
While we arrived at the Delta Riviera Nayarit hotels, my bags were loaded at the back of a golf cart, and I was escorted through the premises, which looked like the fusion of a water park and a safari.
It was quite pleasant with its well -maintained terrain and five swimming pools – including a lazy river and an infinity pool.
I hesitated when I registered and I received a black bracelet that I could not withdraw who reported to the staff that I belonged to the property, who is only open to the guests of the hotel. It reminded me of an ankle instructor.
However, my feeling of destination home assistance faded when I entered my room. I couldn’t deny it: I could be happy here.
Its spa -shaped bathroom with a rain shower, a comfortable bed, several mirrors of vanity and superb balcony views made me want to congratulate my friend for a well done booking work.
I checked the gymnasium then and I found that it was better than the gymnasium at the W nearby, where we stayed afterwards, and equally with that of the Four Seasons in Mexico.
Seeing more property, I passed a spa, several restaurants and different types of swimming pools. Overall, I found that the rooms and the equipment felt of better quality and more diverse that I expected.
I was skeptical about food, assuming that everything would be buffet style and sacrifice the quantity on quality.
In my opinion, it is rare for a buffet to really offer a wonderful culinary experience. In many cases, the guests could leave an uncomfortably full buffet, only convince themselves that it was good because they had their money.
But to my surprise, my favorite meal on the property was in a daily buffet, where I tried a little of everything: chilaquiles, huevos rancheros, pan dulce, fruit and even staples for Americanized lunch such as chicken fajitas. I even had a second help.
I was also pleased to note that most of the property restaurants operated as regular food establishments with menus and servers.
The first day, I had a particularly attentive server which immediately noticed that I did not fully appear my lunch and that I offered to bring a different dish. This level of service impressed me.
Although I expected gadget buffets and lower quality dishes, the culinary experience at the complex did not drop me. None of the dishes I ate was bad, even if many of them were not particularly memorable.

Although I feared to exchange my free will for prepaid perimeters, I found myself enjoying the all -inclusive stay.
While I watched the guests block, jump in the pool and report golf carts to get them from a place to the next (even if everything was accessible on foot), I started to understand the attraction I had doubted.
The complex was not only designed to be a place to stay – it had to be a great experience in itself.
Above all, I loved walking without my wallet. The ease of going from a restaurant to the next time without having to ask for checks made me feel as if I had the place.
In this way, being in an all -inclusive complex felt similar to a cruise. In addition, we did not have to leave the field if we did not want it. The adventurer in me hated the fact that I thought it was a good thing.
I appreciated the convenience but also that we were able to leave the property and seek an adventure by ensuring that private drivers take us to neighboring volcanoes and waterfalls.
Finally, aAlthough I had thought that “everything understood” only referred to a type of mid -range hotel, I learned that even high -end hotels offer service. The w – one of my favorite hotel chains – Even offers restoration and consumption plans to its nearby location.
In the end, I did not leave the feeling that I must Go back to this exact station, but I would be ready to consider an all -inclusive option the next time it appears on the table.
