Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) fired back at Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania) following his mocking comments during Thursday night’s House Oversight and Accountability Committee hearing that erupted in chaos and was littered with insults.
“In the past, I have described the American House as the Jerry Springer Show,” Fetterman said Friday morning on the social media platform X. “Today, I apologize to the Jerry Springer Show.”
Ocasio-Cortez, who was one of the key lawmakers who clashed during the committee markup to scorn Attorney General Merrick Garland, fired back at the first-term senator, saying she stood up to “bullies.”
“I understand that you probably wouldn’t have defended your colleague and that you seem confused that racism and misogyny are a problem on both sides,” Ocasio-Cortez said Friday on X.
“But I stand up to bullies, instead of becoming one.” And to the women of Pennsylvania: I will defend you too. Enjoy your Friday.
During the hearing, which was suspended for nearly an hour due to blows being exchanged from all sides, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) accused Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) of wearing ” fake eyelashes “. Ocasio-Cortez later moved to rescind Greene’s remarks, calling them “disgusting” and “absolutely unacceptable.”
Later, Crockett took a dig at the Georgia Republican that went viral, asking, “If someone on this committee then starts talking about someone’s bleached blonde butch body, that wouldn’t engage in personalities, right?
The chaotic markup, in which committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) struggled to maintain order, was mocked and criticized by personalities from CNN and Fox News Friday morning.
