Mother Nature was occupied in Sydney: the capital of New South Wales was beaten by “Monster Surf” during the night of Wednesday, with waves of 18 feet crashing on the local beaches and the coastal gateways – even damaging the famous Icebergs swimming pool of Bondi Beach. Safety images have shown that the waves break out through the glass doors of the Bondi Icebergs swimming club around 11 p.m. on Tuesday, which the director of the club Bob Tate called “Devastor” by the AP.
“The pure scale of the water level and the power of the passing water must be horrible,” he said, adding that the cupboards and the fire pipes were torn from the water walls (see the video of some of the damage here). Local officials said several beaches in the region, including Bondi, would remain closed on Wednesday so that cleaning and repairs can take place. A dangerous surf warning remained in force until Wednesday evening, with the Meteorology Office of Australia by warning against swimming, pleasure navigation or rock fishing in affected places.
