A grilled cheese sandwich is one of the ultimate comforting foods. It’s a simple meal to prepare at home, but I was curious to see which fast restaurant made the best version of the classic sandwich.
So, I went to Sonic, Shake Shack and five guys to see how their grilled cheese sandwiches stuck against each other. Here’s how it went.
Prices may vary depending on the location.
The first restaurant I visited was Sonic.
Dropout
Sonic was originally founded in 1953 under the name of a Racine beer stand in Shawnee, in Oklahoma, called Top Hat. The name of the chain was modified in 1959 and the rest belongs to history. Sonic now has more than 3,500 locations in 46 states.
Sonic’s toasted cheese had to sell only $ 3.25.
There was certainly a lot of cheese.

Sonic’s sandwich was the most unpleasant in the group, with a decent quantity of cheese oozing the sides of the bread. However, the sandwich was full of greatness, generously loaded with cheese and grilled.
The bread was thick and spongy, and although cheese has definitely a slightly artificial taste (as American cheese tends to do it, in my opinion), it was a satisfactory sandwich that was worth 100% of money.
Then I went to shake Shack.

What started as a Hot-Dog cart from Madison Square Park has become a chain with more than 580 locations around the world. Although the chain may be better known for its burgers and fries, it also sells sandwiches with toasted cheese.
Mine cost $ 6, which seemed a little steep after coming from Sonic.
The sandwich was tasteful, but was a bit small.
Steven John
The sandwich tasted with a homemade toasted cheese, with a good balance of cheese and toast.
However, it seemed to be much smaller than Sonic’s offer, leaving me disappointed.
My last stop was five guys.

The famous hamburgers chain was founded in 1986 and spread from a family business in Arlington, Virginia, at around 1,700 locations worldwide.
I paid $ 7 for my grilled cheese sandwich.
The sandwich was expensive but delicious.

The five guy grilled cheese was the best tasting of the group. He was cooked after ordering, and he was hot and melty when served.
The thick and buttered bread was delicious, and although the cheese was a little exaggerated, it had a great taste.
When I am looking for a sandwich with grilled fast food cheese, the price has more than quality.
Steven John
The only problem I had with the five guy sandwich was the price. At $ 7, it costs more than twice that of the grilled cheese of Sonic, and was neither twice good nor twice as large.
So, the next time I want a fast food cheese sandwich, I head for Sonic because its delicious offer is sold at an advantageous price.
