“I must take responsibility for my actions and their consequences towards the victims. » It is 12:30 p.m. this Sunday when Thomas, 22, pronounces these words, as a preamble to the hearing of the judge of freedoms and detention which is being held at the Lorient court.

Thomas is suspected of having deliberately mowed down two pedestrians leaving a nightclub on Friday in Vannes. This Sunday, the young adult, native of Angers, appeared in white jeans, rectangular glasses on his nose and a dejected look. He is “very affected by the situation”.

After 48 hours of police custody at the Vannes police station, the young man was transported to Lorient to be heard, early this Sunday morning, by the investigating judge. The case is now in the hands of the Lorient criminal unit. At the end of this hearing, the young man was indicted. As of Friday, an investigation was opened for attempted murder. For this qualification, the maximum sentence incurred before a criminal court is 30 years.

Locked up in Ploemeur

At the end of his hearing, the magistrate requested his placement in pre-trial detention. A request followed by the judge of freedoms and detention. The alleged perpetrator was taken to the Ploemeur remand center early in the afternoon.

Previously, his lawyer, Maître Chloé Amiot, had requested that the debates of this Sunday hearing take place behind closed doors. A request supported by the requisitions of the public prosecutor and followed by the judge, “for the serenity of the debates and respect for the secrecy of the investigation”.

Victims not yet heard

This Sunday noon, the victims had not yet been able to be interviewed. On Friday, Nathan, a 21-year-old young man, was seriously injured and transported, unconscious, to Pontchaillou University Hospital, in Rennes. Noahm, 16, was also hit by the car and hospitalized at CHBA in Vannes. Louis, also 16 years old, was not hit by the vehicle, but was psychologically shocked.
