‘I might get fired’ – Laura Woods jokes about talkSPORT return after funny mistake

Laura Woods could be back in our talkSPORT studios sooner than expected after a Freudian slip live on TNT Sports.

Woods is the new face of TNT Sports after joining the sports broadcasters this summer, but old habits die hard for the former talkSPORT star.

While presenting Manchester City’s Premier League clash against Aston Villa on Wednesday night, she got herself into trouble and shouted at us in the process.

Making her introductions at the start of the show, she said: “The title race takes center stage as we arrive in the middle of a mammoth Premier League midweek on talkSPORT.”

There’s no shortage of social media these days and, sure enough, the moment quickly went viral as Woods expertly addressed his mistake towards the end of the show.

“There will be more football tomorrow, Liverpool against Sheffield United and Chelsea against Manchester United,” she said as she concluded the evening.

“Remember you can enjoy it at the same time on the brilliant Discovery Plus app, but I might not be here much longer because I said talkSPORT.

“Then they might fire me very soon!”

“They’re (talkSPORT) up there so hello guys, I’ll be back with you shortly.”

Speaking to a smiling Rio Ferdinand and Joleon Lescott, she then added: “Should we talk about Aston Villa? Nowadays, you simply cannot recruit staff.

Don't worry Woodsy, there's always a job for you here

Woods left the talkSPORT studios for an emotional farewell last summer where tears were shed.

She spent three fantastic years with the radio station, building fantastic relationships with colleagues and fans, as well as Ally McCoist on The Breakfast Show.

Ally McCoist leaves Laura Woods angry after accidentally calling Wilfred Zaha ‘world class’ instead of Mo Salah

Woodsy said in his farewell speech: “There are just a few last things I wanted to say. Whoever gets that job, whoever gets the pleasure of sitting in that chair, I don’t think I realized until you got it the impact you can have on people’s lives.

“That’s the most important thing I learned: the power of this station, this chair and the people you work with.

“This job is the best thing you will ever experience. The people you talk to, everywhere you go, this station is just a must.

And while Woods may no longer be part of the talkSPORT team, she’s still doing a fantastic job for us because she was right, we have a mammoth week of live soccer here on talkSPORT.

Tonight you can listen to Liverpool vs Sheffield United and Chelsea vs Manchester United on talkSPORT and talkSPORT 2 respectively.

Then on Saturday, talkSPORT will exclusively broadcast City’s trip to Crystal Palace, which has already provided drama in title races (remember Crystanbul?)

We’ll also provide live coverage of Aston Villa v Brentford and Tottenham v Nottingham Forest before the end of the week.
