I had a handy idea to help me measure things

One man has developed a convenient way to measure things using just his finger: a tattoo of a ruler.

Steffen Karlsen, 31, asked his partner Julie Strømsnes, 35, to create the fun inking on his right index finger.

After a few attempts at persuasion, tattoo artist Julie engraved the design on her finger, drawing 10 lines spaced 1 cm apart from each other.

Delighted Steffen says he “loves” his tattoo – described as “genius” by some social media users – and can’t wait to use it whenever he wants.

Steffen, a naval officer from Trondheim, Norway, said: “I always wanted to use my fingers to measure.

“I thought about putting lines in centimeters there.

“I like it. It’s a useful tattoo that I can use for something.

His wife Julie said: “I was skeptical about the aesthetic, but it turned out so cool.

“I was so happy with how perfect it turned out.”

The couple met when Julie was an apprentice in 2011 and hit it off when she tattooed Seffen’s back in 2021.

They are now expecting a baby together in May this year.

Tattoo lover Steffen has tattoos covering his upper body and one on his foot, but he suddenly got the idea to get a ruler tattoo last month.

When the two were at the AvantGarde studio last week, Steffen convinced Julie to tattoo his design.

He said: “I said since we’re here, let’s get this rule tattooed.”

Julie spent 10 minutes drawing the measurements and five minutes completing the tattoo.

Social media users were divided over the inventive ink, with some praising Steffen’s idea and others calling it “stupid.” Julie Strømsnes / SWNS

Steffen said: “30 percent of the comments say ‘this is great.’

“Others say it’s stupid: your finger will grow.”

Julie said: “A lot of people say I’m a hairdresser or a civil engineer – that could come in handy. »

Steffen hasn’t used his new ruler tattoo yet, but he loves being able to.

He said: “It’s nice to have the opportunity.

“It’s meant for works of art.”
