‘I feel like shit’ – Nick Kyrgios collapses and smashes rackets after losing US Open quarter-final to Karen Khachanov

The Aussie was the advice of many to win the whole thing at Flushing Meadow after beating defending champion Daniil Medvedev in the previous round, while Rafael Nadal was also out of the Slam.

Two rackets headed for trash after Kyrgios loss

Khachanov edged out the home-and-away clash 7-5 4-6 7-5 6-7(3) 6-4, which ended just before 1am at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

After congratulating Khachanov, Kyrgios showed his frustration with the result by destroying two racquets and then quickly running off the pitch.

The 27-year-old has already been fined a total of US$18,500 (around £16,000) for four separate offenses at this tournament, including spitting, swearing and breaking his racket.

Kyrgios admitted he was heartbroken to lose, missing out on a huge chance to win a coveted Slam.

When asked if this loss hurt him more after his run at Wimbledon and his victory over Medvedev, he replied: “Yeah. I mean, yes, they do. Honestly, I feel like crap I feel like I’ve let down so many people. I don’t know. I feel like I’m playing Tokyo and stuff.

Khachanov will face Rudd in the semi-finals

“But, like, I feel like those four tournaments are the only ones that will ever matter. It’s like you have to start all over again. I have to wait for the Australian Open.

“It’s just devastating. Like it was heartbreaking. Not just for me, but for everyone I know who wants me to win.

Khachanov will face Casper Rudd in the semifinals on Friday.
