Despite high expectations before qualifying for the Bahrain Grand Prix in 2025, Lando Norris could only manage P6 on the grid. Meanwhile, his McLaren teammate, Oscar Piastri, amazed the ground by obtaining pole position. Norris, who had a promising performance in practice sessions, was disappointed after the qualification tour.
Speaking frankly after the third quarter, the British pilot gave one of the most brutally honest interviews in his Formula 1 career so far.
“I was just slow. I was slow all this weekend, to be honest. Nothing too surprising, honestly. I just gave up. I feel like I never drive an F1 car before. I have a lot of trouble, I don’t know why. I have to try to find answers,” said Norris.
“The car is incredible. I have nothing to complain about. The car, the team does an incredible job, Oscar is on the post by a good part. I am grateful for the team, they do an incredible job, I drop them,” he added.
Norris was realistic about his chances in the main race: “It’s to try to win the race, but I don’t think I will win tomorrow. I think to try to aim for a podium will be the best chance. I think Oscar will be launched everyone. I will try to go to the second, I suppose. ”
Sky Sports F1 Analyst Karun Chandhok offered an overview of Norris’s difficulties, noting that the Briton was dragging his teammate from FP2, and in particular the land lost in the first sector of his last round.
“He lost three tenths in the first sector. He would have been close to George (Russell), but still behind Oscar-and you don’t want to be beaten by your teammate. To be sixth on the grid for a weekend where we were talking about a one-two McLaren, he now has four others before him,” said Chandhok.
While McLaren goes to the Bahrain Grand Prix with a driver in the front row and another outside the first five, all the eyes will be on Norris to recover and Piastri to convert his post to victory.
