‘I feel bad for the American people’, we’re in tons of ‘speculation’ ‘and it’s too bad’

On Friday’s “PBS NewsHour” program, Washington Post Contributing columnist Gary Abernathy reacted to the Justice Department’s announcement that a special counsel has been appointed to investigate former President Donald Trump by saying he feels “bad for the American people” because now there will be “day after day of headlines and comments and speculation and breaking news and leaks” about the investigation. He also said that while it would be best if the attorney’s office could just do their job and come to a conclusion without a whole lot of speculation first, “we know from Mueller and the Russia report” that it’s not going to happen.
Abernathy said: “I feel bad for the American people, frankly, because just like the Mueller investigation, we are now day after day of headlines, commentaries, speculations, breaking news and leaks on this that the special advocate is investigating and what direction is it going and what it means for all of us And that’s a shame, not to say it wasn’t a good step, Amna, but it would be nice if the prosecutor could do his job and then later announce what he found without all the speculation and headlines in between, but we know from Mueller and the Russia report how that’s going to play out.
