New York:
The deputy for the Shashi Tharoor Congress on Saturday (local time) underlined how India responded in a measured and calibrated manner to the terrorist bases and the seat of Pakistan, after the vile terrorist attack in Pahalgam during which 26 people were killed. He called on the world to come together to fight with united terrorism.
Putting comments to the Indian consulate, Tharoor noted that the visit of the members of the delegation for the September 11 memorial was their first judgment.
He said: “It was obviously a very moving moment for us, but he was also supposed to send a very strong message that we are here in a city that always carries the scars of this wild terrorist attack following another terrorist attack in our own country.”
Mr. Tharoor said: “We both came as a reminder that this is a shared problem, but also a spirit of solidarity with the victims … It is a global problem, it is a scourge and we all have to fight it with united.”
Speaking on the objective of the visit of the delegation of all the parties, Mr. Tharoor said: “Our idea is a lot to speak to a transversal section of public and political opinion in each of the countries to which we are going on recent events which obviously disturb a certain number of people in the world.
“It is therefore for us an opportunity that we will be in all countries, meeting members of the executive, meeting members of the Legislative Assembly, meeting great oil tankers and influential foreign policy experts, and at the same time interacting with the media and public opinion in each of these places.”
Describing Pahalgam’s vile terrorist attack, Tharoor said: “It was a bunch of people who identify the people of the people before them and killing them on this basis, which were clearly intended to provoke a reaction in the rest of India, because the victims were Hindu.”
He gave various examples of Indian society in the way in which politicians in civilians in the Jammu-et-Cachemire, people gathered in solidarity. “There was an extraordinary quantity of conviviality crossing the religious and other divisions that people tried to provoke. The message is very clear that there was a malignant intention … India, unfortunately, had no reason to doubt where it came.”
Describing more details, Mr. Tharoor said: “In an hour of atrocity, a group called the resistance front had claimed the credit. Now, unfortunately, he had acted in 2025, they repeated their complaint the next day.”
“Unfortunately, Pakistan has chosen to follow its usual denial path, in fact, Pakistan using China managed to remove the reference to the TRF of the press release written to the UN Security Council two days later”.
Speaking about India’s response following Pahalgam’s terrorist attack, Mr. Tharoor said: “I don’t work for the government, as you know. I work for an opposition party, but I myself am written an editorial in one of the main papers of India, in a few days saying that the time had come to strike hard and I am happy to say that it is exactly what it is exact did.”
