- I made a 10-day road trip with my mother and stepfather, and I would like us to make more stops.
- We have visited places like Key West, Orlando and St. Augustine, and I want us to pass more time in Miami.
- Next time, I would make a longer trip, would lead more picturesque roads and would avoid traveling around Thanksgiving.
As a teenager, doing a road trip with my mother would have been the last thing in my mind – but at the end of the thirties, spend time with her and my stepfather over 10 days Road trip through Florida made for an unforgettable trip.
After our arrival in Miami in mid-November, we traveled more than 1,200 miles in total. We traveled south to Key West, then went back to Orlando, to St. Augustine, then descend to Miami (via Hollywood), spending about two nights in each area.
Although covering so much terrain gave us an excellent taste for the diversity of Florida was also a bit of a point of pain.
We all agreed that with a few adjustments, the beautiful holidays could have been even better.
I would like us to extend the holidays for a few days.

We all have lives, careers and finished funds and, as such, it is difficult to spend more than 10 days at home.
However, in an ideal world, I think that the trip would have been better extended to at least 14 days.
The recording of hotels every three days, then spending hours on the road has become a bit of a slog. Having an additional day or two in certain places would have made our trip more relaxed.
If we write the trip, we would bring another airport home.
Chris Carra
We took the plane in Miami, which meant that after our last stay in Saint-Augustin, we had to take a ride by car from 315 miles to the south.
To tell the truth, we could all have been able to make without this long road at the very end of a trip dominated by the car.
If we write the trip, we would still fly to Miami, although we returned to the United Kingdom from Orlando Airport – which is closer to St. Augustine about 200 miles.
I would like us to spend less time on the main roads and that we have led more picturesque.
Chris Carra
To save time during the trip, we mainly stuck at the I-95. However, the highway road was a bit dull and, ironically, not as fast as we would have liked it due to the increase in traffic around Thanksgiving.
If we rebuild this trip, we would have spent more time taking the picturesque coastal roads, like the Florida State Road A1A. I have since seen photos of his tropical landscapes and his ocean views, and I think we have missed by not seeing him in real life.
In addition, following this panoramic route may also have given us more opportunities to spend the night in a cool small town – which brings me to my next point …
In some cases, it would have been pleasant to add more stops.
Chris Carra
I may contradict myself a little with regard to my point of view of not wanting to register me and get out of so many hotels, but I would like to have added another stop by driving north.
After spending three nights in Key West, we went to Orlando in a single day. Cover nearly 400 miles and spend almost nine hours in the car meant that we arrived tired, grumpy and in an urgent need of beer.
Spend a night somewhere along the way – perhaps Fort Lauderdale or Boca Raton – would have allowed more exploration and less time on the road in a single stroke.
Traveling on Thanksgiving was a bit worse than expected.
Chris Carra
As British, it was really interesting to be in the United States during the Thanksgiving season.
I appreciated the festivals and fun decorations, and I could even try traditional seasonal foods served by the host of our rental – which could refuse the green pan and the pumpkin pie?
However, a large part of Key West closed the day of Thanksgiving, which means that I could not do whatever I wanted.
Having done Thanksgiving now, I would avoid this vacation next time.
We should have spent more time in Miami.
Chris Carra
We spent two nights in Miami Beach at the start of the road trip, which allowed me to see the emblematic Ocean Drive, to visit the magnificent beach and to meet friends who live in the region.
With hindsight, it would have been pleasant to spend a little more time here, because I did not have the opportunity to explore the city center of Miami or Little Havana.
If we had had more time, we could also have seen a dolphin or marlins game or use Miami as a base from which to see the Everglades National Park in southern Florida.
