When I started planning a trip to Las Vegas with my friends to celebrate my 40th birthday, I was a little uncomfortable.
While I was suitable for, I found myself trying the tight and sparkling dresses I wore and I was wondering if I could still zip them. Visions of crowded nightclubs, strong music and Tequila shooters have taken a break.
I did not want to hug the energy drinks to go to a club until dawn and support the cacophony of a DJ which I had never heard of. The vegas that I felt seemed exhausting, and I was too tired to pretend that I was still in my twenties.
And then, I had a liberating achievement: I did not have to do so. I had nothing to prove, only things to celebrate.
I was free to create an experience that really resonated with me, not with a slope in an obsolete concept of what Funny trip to Vegas should look like. The pressure to be “cool” has moved away.

The heart of Las Vegas band is a sensory overload, and its energy can be as exhausting as it is necessary. So, I knew that for my 40th, I wanted a sanctuary, a place to withdraw and recharge.
Instead of staying in one of the exaggerated hotels and centered on the party that Vegas is known, I reserved a suite in Crockford’s, a luxury hotel in the first eight floors of Resorts World Las Vegas.
My route trip was also very different from Vegas weekends in their twenties. I knew I wanted to go home so my toddler felt refreshed, not drained, so relaxation was an absolute priority.
I planned more time in spas than in bars, prioritizing well-being and relaxation on the rejoicing of the end of the evening. Instead of pregnant before an evening, I went to a living room for a glamorous eruption.
During my last day in Vegas, I spent the whole afternoon in a decadent massage spa and sip cucumber water in the sauna.
Of course, my friends and I also plunged into hedonism in Las Vegas.
We drank fantastic cocktails, sharing Manhattans at the swirling table with cherry smoke at Pinky’s from Vanderpump and Dirty Martinis Downtown at the Carousel Bar.
We feasted on seafood towers and bubbles during brunch in Giada and siroté of Martinis of Expresso in the living room. We looked at the new Cirque du Soleil performance and we are booged during a dancing evening and immersive show from the 70s.
Anier – In particular the celebration of striking birthdays – was exciting when I was young, but I feel more and more complicated as I get older.
However, I felt exalted surrounded by friends from a city bursting with such infectious energy. I also realized that the more I get older, the more I feel free of expectations.
If that’s what “Over the Hill” looks like, I’m on board. My celebration of the 40th anniversary in Las Vegas was not a desperate attempt to cling to youth – it was a victory tour and a celebration of a life experienced in my own words.
And as I raise my glass to another year, I know that the best is yet to come.
