I Can Walk Pain-Free Miles in the Heat Thanks to This $10 Style Hack

When I was 13, I spent two months at a summer camp in the Adirondacks. After a particularly intense day of physical activity, my inner thighs were bright red and burning. One of the older girls very kindly listened to me complain and said, “yeah, chub rub is the best.” worse.” It was a momentous experience to learn that not only did it have a name, but that it was also a fairly common thing.

Once I knew this pain and discomfort had a name, a chub rub or, more formally, a thigh rub, I was able to start looking for a solution. For a while, these measures were ad hoc; a stick of deodorant rubbed on my inner thighs or on bike shorts worn under dresses. Next came a specially formulated solution in the form of chub rub sticks, the best of which is Megababe’s Thigh Rescue Anti-Rub Stick.

It is not hyperbole to say that this stick changed my life. I’m a big girl, I wear a size 14 to 16 and I haven’t worn pants since I was 15. As you can imagine, summer can be painful: with all that heat and humidity, my poor thighs become raw and tender. But Megababe’s anti-chafing stick is my savior. I have two large sticks at home and I keep a mini stick in every purse, beach, or tote bag. (I was struck with incredible panic both times I realized I didn’t have one with me, so it will never happen again.)

There are similar competing products, but Megababe’s stands out. First of all, although it glides on like butter, the formula is more like a balm. It’s occlusive, which is ideal for a product whose purpose is to create a protective barrier. Second, although the more you move, the faster it comes off, but it lasts a long time. In fact, I spent hours walking in the sweltering Italian summer heat before I needed a touch-up. Third, if (God forbid) I get irritation from chub rubbing, Megababe’s formula soothes and repairs the skin with ingredients like aloe vera and grapeseed oil. Finally, it leaves no residue and does not pill. I would have liked to have even a small criticism to make of Megababe’s balm, so that this review wouldn’t be so positive as that, but I really can’t do anything.

The weather is getting hot and humid, but thanks to my arsenal of a dozen Megababe Thigh Rescue Anti-Chafe Sticks, I’m prepared and not afraid. Head over to Amazon to purchase the original, mini, and unscented versions.
