I called Chelsea chairman to sign a young John Terry and got a savage five-word response

Chelsea told Simon Jordan to “fuck off” when he tried to poach John Terry for Crystal Palace.

The talkSPORT presenter bought his beloved Eagles in 2000 and was keen to land the Blues legend as one of his first signings.

At the time, Terry had played just 16 times for the west London side over two seasons and spent part of the 1999/2000 campaign on loan at Nottingham Forest.

He had only made six appearances in the current Championship Division for the Reds, but that was enough to convince Jordan that the 19-year-old was good enough.

But it turned out that’s what Chelsea chairman Ken Bates also thought of the defender, and was quick to let Jordan know what he thought of his transfer request.

Speaking to John Terry on his Up Front YouTube channel, the former palace owner recalled how the conversation went.

Once the presentation formalities were settled, Jordan said, “Here’s a fun fact for you.

“I don’t know if you know, you were on loan at Nottingham Forest in the 1999/2000 season.

“And I had bought Palace in 2000, and I phoned Batesey and said, ‘I’d like to sign this kid John Terry.’

“And I was like, ‘Well, you can get the hell out.’

“’He’s a top player, he’s not going to your club.’

Following his loan spell at the City Ground, Terry became a key player for Chelsea from the 2000/01 season onwards.

And in 2004 he was made permanent captain of the club, where he will remain one of the greatest skippers in the Premier League.

Terry finally left Stamford Bridge in 2017, where he made 717 appearances in all competitions, the third most appearances in the club’s history.

As well as scoring 67 goals as a centre-back, he also won 17 major honors with the club.
