I attend a state school for the university, and it was the best decision
  • I decided to frequent the University of Georgia, a state school.
  • Now that I am in my fourth year, I know that I have made the right decision to go to a public school.
  • It was cheaper, I had more opportunities to explore my interests and I am ready for my career.

Determined Where to go to university was one of the most important – and stressful – decisions that I have ever taken.

I have considered many factors – from cost to school space. After carefully weighed my options, I chose to attend my state school.

Now that I am in my fourth year at University of GeorgiaI know I made the right decision. Here’s why I think everyone should frequent state schools.

Affordability

One of the most convincing reasons for frequenting a state school is affordability. In addition to the decline Tuition fees for students in the stateMy state has a scholarship funded by the lottery which covers complete tuition fees for many students.

This financial support has not only reduced my debt, but also gave me the opportunity to make a Study program abroad in Hawaii and flexibility to consider higher studies without significant financial stress.

Flexibility in academic choices

At the beginning of my first year, I did something to which many students can understand: my first major university did not line up with my career objectives.

Fortunately, my state school offers hundreds of majors. With the help of my advisor, I passed in a transparent way between colleges, from the environmental economy to management and possibly my main current management information systems.

Various course offers

In addition to a wide range of majors, my state school offers a wide range of courses to choose from.

I was encouraged to get out of my comfort zone and discover new passions in world agriculture, ecology, jazz, living room dance and golf.

The unique courses that I followed during my first year finally led me to add two certificates – sustainability and leadership – to my diploma.

Campus Life and resources

With hundreds of clubs led by students and Campus organizationsPublic schools offer endless opportunities to continue the most niche interests. I am involved in athletics (club tennis), professional groups (women in technology and women in business), community construction (Honors Student Council) and volunteering (Serving UGA).

I am also a member of Honors College, which gives me a smaller group in a larger student body and the possibility of taking advanced courses.

The resources available on the campus are just as impressive. My school has several dining rooms with various kitchens, spacious libraries, a cutting -edge gymnasium and a complete health center.

These amenities helped me maintain my physical and mental well-being while prioritizing academics.

Career and networking opportunities

The attendance of my state school has played a decisive role in starting my career. Assets Network of former is an invaluable resource, with many former students returning to the campus to help recruit efforts.

When I stretched out, the elders were more than ready to conduct simulated interviews and guide me throughout the job application process, which was incredibly useful.

In addition, the strong regional reputation of my state school facilitated the identification and targeting of companies during my job search. Employers see the impact of my university firstly thanks to our well -prepared graduates, giving students a competitive advantage in the labor market. This helped me get a full -time advice offer before graduation.

Proximity to the house

Like the the oldest In my family, I was nervous to be the first to leave the house and go to university. I was afraid of feeling bad from the country and isolated from my family. The attendance of my state school allowed me to stay close enough to go home on weekends during my first year, which attenuated my transition.

While I got more involved on campus and I found my place, I now rarely come home in the fourth year. However, knowing that the house is only a short distance by car if necessary is comforting.

Frequenting a state school provided me with an affordable, flexible and enriching university experience. From various academic offers to career opportunities and a strong feeling of community, my decision to register in a state school was one of the best choices I have ever made.

For students who weigh their university options, I strongly recommend considering the many advantages of frequenting a state school.
