This test also filed is based on a conversation with George Saliba, a 34 -year -old car dealer in New Jersey. His identity was verified by Business Insider. This story has been changed for length and clarity.
I am managing director and owner of J&S Authaus, a luxury car and a SUV dealer. When the Cybertruck was released for the first time, I thought it would be the hottest drop of a vehicle in our life.
If you were this chance to get a cyberbeast, it was simply instantaneous – you knew you hit the lottery.
This hot market lasted about three months. Quick advance so far and I find it hard to sell the cybertruck. Here is why.
It is not the symbol of status that it was once
When the Cybertruck was released for the first time, the people I saw buying them tended to be athletes, famous people and, in general, people interested in status. It was better than having a Lamborghini, especially because of all the media that was built around him.
The Cybertruck brand had that “you can’t buy this car”. You have never seen them on the road. I was one of the first in New Jersey to drive one, and I could not go nowhere without being talking to me.
People who were less interested in the status had the mentality that they would wait for the value of the vehicle to stabilize and get closer to the PDSF. Then the MSRP cards started to go out and people are starting to keep them. The market continued to drop, $ 10 or $ 20.
There are no real problems with the vehicle. It’s an excellent vehicle, and it’s always fun to drive and it attracts attention. It’s just the whole shape of the car, people say in a way that it is simply not the most practical. It is made of stainless steel and it is really angular. So it’s like the easiest truck to hate, politics apart.
It was a status car. Now it’s not too much a status car.
Some of the first cybertrucks that came out sold for more than $ 240,000 during the auction. Today, this car is worth around $ 70,000.
Once it has reached a price of $ 50,000 or $ 60,000, it will be a very good thing to buy. There is the possibility of coming back and becoming stronger, but the market has not really understood at what price it is still.
The political situation made them less desirable
About 60 days ago, the Cybertrucks sales market fell. I now feel like I’m not to sell Cybertruck to save my life.
For me, the strongest impact that crushed the market was the political thing.
My guy to whom I sold a Cybertruck said: “Dude, everyone gets a sticker. As nobody wants them anymore.”
People started giving me the middle fingers. My friend called me and said to me, “I have to sell my cybertruck. Someone just threw me a rock while I was driving, my children were in the back.”
People put Toyota labels on their cybertrucks to avoid inflictions and the confrontation of others. They try to reduce anger by reversing their vehicle. Then there are these bumper stickers who say: “I bought that before Elon went crazy.”
Other teslas are always sold
Cybertruck has taken the most hatred, but I don’t see people hate Tesla Because of what is happening politically.
The Tesla market in general has always been in good demand. How can you be mistaken with model 3 and the Y model? It’s better than any other car. It’s better than a chevy, better than Volkswagen. It has the best technology and driving infrastructure.
I have seen a certain reduced request, but the way Tesla works is that prices adjust. Prices will decrease, then people will start buying again, because in the end, it is an incredible product and people want it.
When the car becomes cheaper, you have more request from a different audience. Thus, all these people who could not afford a tesla at $ 70,000 for a model Y when prices have been inflated, are now looking to buy electric cars at a lower price.
I am always looking for cybertrucks and I have just bought one the other day, but the price I would like to pay must be “sell now” because there is a lot of risk buying them right now – Tesla could simply lower their prices at any time.
