Hyundai Ioniq 5N wins, Tesla Cybertruck drops out of EV of the Year and Driver’s Choice test

THE Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is the current darling of the Electric vehicle world, especially among us people who enjoy the act of driving and fear the risk of a soulless death. Electric vehicle future, so it’s no surprise that the Ioniq 5 N is won Car and driver 2024 Electric Vehicle of the Year Award. CD determines its EVOTY by gathering the most recent electric vehicles on the market, and all competitors are rated on the following four criteria: value, driving pleasure, mission accomplishment and technological progress. Eighteen vehicles participated in the 2024 EVOTY tests, including a Tesla Cybertruckbut the Cybertruck The rented magazine broke down on the second day of testing, with only a few hundred kilometers on the clock. It was the only electric vehicle in the field to receive a retirement score. Who could have predicted such a tragedy?

The standard Ioniq 5 won EVOTY in 2022, the Ioniq 6 won it in 2023, and now the Ioniq 5 N is carrying the torch. The Ioniq 5 N has 641 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque, and it goes from 0 to 60 mph in 3 seconds despite weighing 4,849 pounds. It wowed testers with innovative features that are uniquely designed to increase driver engagement, driving enjoyment, and put a smile on the faces of occupants. It does the normal EV things well, too, and it can charge from 10 to 90 percent in 35 minutes, but most importantly, the Ioniq 5 N is just plain fun to drive. Innovative features like simulated engine sounds and simulated N e-shift shifting with steering wheel-mounted paddles help the Ioniq 5 N mimic a lively and peppy internal combustion vehicle, not necessarily accurately, but in a fun way nonetheless. At $67,495, it’s actually a relatively good deal considering its performance potential, and it breaks the mold as a truly fun-to-drive EV. It beat out all other competitors, including excellent cars like the BMW i5 M60, Kia EV9SUV Mercedes-Benz EQS, Polestar 2 and Chevrolet Equinox Electric.
