The Nebraska flows 12 3s in Win against Boise State, Advances to Crown Championship
Behind a summit of the season, 12 made at 3 points, the male Basketball team in Nebraska qualified for the championship of the tournament of the university basketball crown in Las Vegas with a victory in the semi-final of 79-69 against the Broncos of Boisse State Broncos on Saturday.
The Huskers will play the winner of the center of Florida and Villanova Sunday at 4.30 p.m. inside the T-Mobile Arena.
Juwan Gary led naked with 21 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. He did not miss deep, going 4 out of 4 from the range of 3 points. He entered the game as a shooter of 31.6% at 3 points.
Two other players scored two figures while Brice Williams added 14 points and Sam Hoiberg 10. Williams added five plates and six assists.
Four Huskers made more than a 3 Saturday, including Gary, Hoiberg (2 out of 4), Cale Jacobsen (2 out of 2) and Ahron Ulis (2 out of 3).
Ulis, the leader rarely used, had one of his best games as a Husker by pouring eight points, five rebounds and two assists. With contributions from everywhere, the Banc de Nu dominated the 26-12 of Boisse State.
“We had contributions across and from top to bottom of this program,” said Nu assistant Ernie Zeigler, at Huskers Radio Network after the match.
Nu fired 46% in the field, 63% out of 3 (12 out of 19) and 83% of the free throw line (15 out of 18). The defense of the Huskers gave to the Boisse State offensive in the first half, and the broncos overthrown the ball more than eight times.
Naked, which led for almost 25 minutes of match action, entered the half-time at the top of 39-33.
The Huskers dragged 7 points, 26-19, with seven minutes to play, but thanks to a 15-1 race, they regained control. During this section, Gary collected five points while Braxton Meah had four and Hooberg and Williams Three.
Williams had 12 points in the first half while Gary added 10.
Huskers played hard and clean basketball. They limited the reversals within the first 20 minutes – only five – while pulling 41.4% in the field, 66.7% out of 3 (6 out of 9) and 90% of the free throw line (9 out of 10).
In the second half, Nu launched the first punch and forced a dead time of Boise State. The Huskers pushed its advance at 14 points, 64-50, with nine minutes left with a lay-up of Berke Büyktunél. A Williams layup with 4:48 on the left put naked at 15 points, 74-59.
Boise State, considered by many to be a snob of the NCAA tournament, has never left and shopped. Tyson Degenhart scored a summit of 26 points and made four 3s.
The Broncos reduced nude advance to seven points with less than two minutes to play twice, but naked played well enough and made five free throws in the last 1:18 to seal the victory.
