Hunger Games star Jena Malone helps track down suspected dog abuser in Los Angeles

The hunger Games Actress Jena Malone was among a crowd of onlookers who took matters into their own hands when a man was allegedly seen abusing a dog near Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood on Tuesday.

Malone was reportedly in her car when she spotted a man “repeatedly kicking a small white dog, pulling the animal into the air and choking it,” according to reports.

Malone reportedly pulled over, jumped out of her vehicle and called for help from others nearby to rescue the animal.

“I yelled at him to pull over from my car, but he didn’t,” Jena Malone told her Twitter followers.

In a series of tweets describing his encounter, Malone added: “So I started chasing him. I saw other people looking down the street upset, because they must have seen the same obnoxious behavior that I have witnessed, so I tried to signal a man in an orange vest to run with me to chase him away.

She noted that she asked passersby for help because she didn’t want to face the man alone. And she then let the crowd express their displeasure with the man.

“So at this point I held back and let them take the lead because I have no reason to try to hold back a grown man. I went back to get my car (it was still running) and I drove to see if they caught him,” she said. tweeted.

Malone added that the mob that pursued the suspected dog attacker ran after him for ‘six blocks’ but stayed behind to deal with the dog and were not part of the attack on the man .

The actress added that this dog had been abused “for months”.

She also said vets later determined the dog had several broken bones:

Malone continued to to tell about her fans on Twitter that she was sure the dog was “going to die.” No way” unless she intervenes. Ultimately, authorities discovered that the dog, a 6-year-old Maltipoo named Champion, had been microchipped and its owner found. The owner claimed the animal had been missing for a week.

“Update: The dog has been microchipped and returned to its owner. The dog had been missing for a week. His name is champion and he is happily released from the hospital and with his owner. Watch out for the Go Fund Me link soon. Its multiple operations will be a lot for the owner to take care of alone,” Malone tweeted in a final update.

Video of the assault on the alleged dog attacker shows a group of men hitting and kicking the man and another even using a pole to beat the man.

The attackers detained the suspect until police arrived.

Animal rights group PETA praised Malone’s actions, awarding the actress their “Compassionate Action Award” for helping save the pup’s life.
