Hungarian Grand Prix set to be one of the most exciting races of the year · RaceFans

As the region around the Hungaroring recovers from a heatwave, Formula 1 teams can expect one of the hottest race weekends of the season so far this weekend.

Ambient temperatures are expected to exceed 30°C over the three days, peaking during Sunday’s 70-lap Grand Prix.

Heavy rain hit the circuit on Wednesday, causing some disruption as teams set up their facilities in the new Hungaroring paddock. But the track will be completely dry by the start of racing tomorrow.

On Friday, teams will have a clearer idea of what to expect on race day. Ambient temperatures will already be above 30°C when practice begins under sunny skies. The afternoon, however, is expected to be covered in clouds, which should dampen track temperatures, which often exceed 50°C at this track.

On Saturday, the sky will be even cloudier and temperatures are not expected to exceed 30°C. However, as Pirelli is using its softest tyres this weekend, drivers will not have to worry about getting their tyres hot in qualifying.

Sunday is forecast to be scorching hot, with no respite from the sun, which could make this the hottest Grand Prix of the season so far. Temperatures on race day are expected to reach at least 33°C, with very little wind.

Some respite is expected Monday morning, with a slight chance of rain. Strategists will be watching closely to see if revised forecasts over the next few days indicate the weather system could arrive earlier, but as things stand, it’s shaping up to be very warm.
