Hundreds of wounded from the Russian war sent to North Korea: the ambassador

  • Wounded Russian troops are sent to North Korean medical facilities, according to a Russian official.
  • Moscow Ambassador in Pyongyang, Alexander Matsegoora, said the agreement involved “hundreds” of troops.
  • War analysts said he could give North Korea the opportunity to learn more about the Ukraine war.

Russia sends soldiers injured in the Ukrainian war to recover in North Korea, the ambassador in Pyongyang told Pyongyang.

The commentary by Alexander Matsegora, the Moscow diplomat in North Korea for more than a decade, was part of an interview with large interviews on cross -border relations that Rossiyskaya Gazeta published on Monday.

“A clear example of such a fraternal attitude is the rehabilitation of hundreds of SVO injured soldiers in Korean sanatoriums and hospitals,” he said. “SVO” is an abbreviation used by the Kremlin to describe the war in Ukraine as a “special military operation”.

Matsegora said that North Korea has refused compensation from Moscow.

“Everything related to the stay in the RPDC, all of this was absolutely free,” he said.

Matsegora said that there was a “warm attitude towards the Russians” in North Korea and mentioned several common students of students and internships in progress between the two countries.

His remarks are still another sign of the way in which the alliance of strengthening between the Russian leader Vladimir Putin and the North Korean leader Kim Jong A takes place on the war front and beyond.

Kim would have sent around 11,000 to 12,000 of his elite troops to combat Ukraine, which aroused concerns in the West that Pyongyang’s participation would help his soldiers to acquire precious combat experience.

Analysts of the Institute for the Study of War, a Washington based reflection group wrote that Russia sending wounded troops in North Korea could stimulate what Pyongyang can learn.

“The arrival of Russian soldiers experienced in combat, in particular if they include officers or non-commissioned officers, North Korea can allow the Russian army to work with North Korean forces and to disseminate lessons The war in Ukraine while ostensibly recovering, “they wrote.

Matsegora also told the state media that Pyongyang teachers would be stationed in major Russian cities such as Moscow, Kazan, Novosibirsk and Vladivostok for a “long period”. There, they would teach the Korean language and taught common classes, he said.

ISW analysts said that this indicates that Russia hopes to prepare the ground for North Korean aid in the war, or at least to obtain aid with its economy sanctioned in wartime.

“The Kremlin can establish information conditions to justify an influx of North Korean citizens arriving in Russia to join the Russian workforce or the Russian army,” wrote ISW analysts.

Matsegora’s comments are also involved while the Federal Security Service of Russia said that the number of North Koreans entering Russia to work in 2024 had increased to more than 13,000 level crossings. It is an increase of 12 times compared to 2023.

However, the exponential jump could also be due to a recovery of the COVVI-19 pandemic. In 2019, more than 21,000 North Koreans were recorded while traveling to Russia to work.

The National Intelligence Service of Seoul said on Sunday that many North Korean workers sent to Russia last year were sent to construction sites.

According to the South Korean agency, this decision helped to fill a shortage of workers in Russia while the pressure from the Kremlin to recruit more soldiers empty the young people in the country.

The NIS also accused Pyongyang and Moscow of using student visas to “send workers without the international community”.

The international community imposes a wide range of sanctions on North Korea, while the West has actively tried to sanction the key Russian sectors such as energy, finance and defense due to its invasion of Ukraine.
