The experienced runners will tell you that it takes months to train for a half-marathon, but what happens if what you run is literally in steel?
On April 13, humanoid robots should compete in the very first half-marathon featuring humans and humanoid robots that rush against each other in Beijing. The Beijing Economic Development-Technological Development area, which welcomes the race, announced the details of the event on Tuesday.
The robots participating in the race will have a break of approximately three and a half hours to finish the track, said Li Quan, deputy chief of the Beijing Economic Development Zone, during a press conference. Humanoid robots will run against 12,000 human runners, with the three best finish – human or robot – receiving prices.
Li said that participating robots can receive prizes in three categories: the completion of the race, the best endurance and the most popular robot. The running robots in the race take place in a separate path.
“We hope that this event will not only present achievements in the humanoid robotics industry, but will also arouse discussions and will deepen public understanding of robots, which will help accelerate the development of industry,” said Li.
Humanoid robots evolve quickly and become a common discussion subject in the world of technology. Some companies such as Mercedes-Benz and BMW have joined forces with humanoid robots companies to test their robots on factory lines. Last month, Humanoid Robot, based in Texas, Make Apptronik announced a partnership with a supply chain company so that its humanoid robots eventually be built.
Robots entering competition must be humanoid robots that do not use wheels, said the Chinese international center for scientific and technological innovation in a press release. The remote -controlled and fully independent robots are eligible for the entrance.
Li said at the press conference that participating robot teams can change their robot batteries or change their robots in a relay system. Each time a team changes a robot, he will receive a ten -minute penalty for the race.
Registration for the event opens on March 11 and it is open to businesses, research institutions, robot clubs and world universities, the press release said.
