When Aleyna Enriquez heard the first time, she knew that the Chula Vista police had pulled a bean bag on her father. She knew it was a less lethal option because the police negotiated with him while he was holding them at a distance last month, and knew he was still alive. Then she heard the shots of the shots.

“It was then that it struck me very hard,” she said. She and her mother were three doors while her father, the retired sailor of the sailor Carlos Enriquez, was shot in a dead end with the police outside the family house on April 19.

Maria Esther Enriquez, wife of Carlos of 32, said that she remembers shouting. “We had no idea that it could happen to him,” she said. “If we knew it, we never called 911.”

The lawyer for the Enriquez family, Gene Iredale, said that the 56 -year -old combat veteran – he had served during the war in Iraq – was in the midst of a mental health crisis at the time, that he had been diagnosed with depression and anxiety linked to his service and his post -traumatic stress disorder. Wednesday, the lawyer joined the wife and daughter of Enriquez at a press conference in downtown San Diego. He put pressure for the Chula Vista police to quickly disclose the video of the incident, including the cameras that the police carried during the incident and the drone flying above.

The law enforcement investigators said that in the event that was fatally killed after pointing a gun on the police.

“We want to see that there is evidence – evidence in the form of video, evidence taken from a camera that hovers over the stage,” said Iredale. He said later, “We want it, and we want it now.”

Police from Chula Vista published a statement on Wednesday, noting that “recordings are being compilation and that a critical incident video containing these recordings will be published on June 3 or before June 3”.

This date marks 45 days from the incident. Since 2019, California has forced law enforcement organizations to be released within 45 days, the worn out of the body and other images from “critical incidents”, including when an officer opens a fire, unless this will interfere considerably with an active investigation.

The friend of the Livier Lazaro family, commander of a local chapter of veterans of the foreign war, called Enriquez “My brother in arms. He was happy, full of life, intelligent, helpful, drives, an incredible father and husband, because he loved his family so much. ” She told journalists that she had been shocked to learn how Enriquez is dead. “He’s not at all an aggressive man.”

“We cannot be afraid to call 911 in crisis. We want help. We don’t want to end up biting, ”she said. She said later: “Her family deserves these answers. The life of future veterans in crisis needs these answers. ”

Around 5:40 a.m. on April 19, police received a family disorder report in a house on the County of Vistas Lane near Bonita Canyon Drive. The description of the events comes from the homicide unit of the San Diego police, which investigates the shooting in the context of an agreement on the county level to prevent the services from investigating themselves.

Chula Vista police arrived at home and found several family members outside. They also learned that the man, now identified as Enriquez, had access to firearms. Police asked to have an armored vehicle and a drone on the scene.

Enriquez came out of the house, his hands in his pockets, said Lieutenant-Homicide of the San Diego police, Lieutenant Jon Dungan, in a press release shortly after the incident. Chula Vista police ordered him to raise his hands.

When Enriquez took his hands out of his pockets, he dropped a gun on the front steps. Dungan said that Chula Vista’s officers ordered him to move away from the weapon, “but he sits rather and put the handgun on his lap.”

DUNGAN said that after that it failed for several minutes to raise his hands, he was shot down once with a bean bag. It overturned him and the pistol fell on his lap.

According to Dungan, when in the event of it was starting to sit, he picked up the weapon and pointed him in the direction of the police. Three of them opened the fire, hitting in several times.

Police found a pistol near him and a second in his belt, said Dungan. He was taken to the hospital, where he died.

Iredale noted that two of the officers who drew on Enriquez had each been part of a federal trial resulting from previous incidents who led to a person’s death in a mental health crisis.
