BRUXELS-The Belgian prosecutor accused eight people of active corruption, money laundering and criminal organization in a survey of Huawei lobbying activities in Europe, he said in a statement.
The decision comes three weeks after the police raids in Belgium and Portugal, as part of an investigation into the alleged illegal payments of the Chinese technology giant to obtain the support of European legislators in the interests of the company. Police authorities also searched offices from the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
Of the eight suspects of the case, three were initially held in prior detention and are now under electronic surveillance following calls, according to the prosecutor’s press release. Two others were released “under conditions,” he said. The other three are still in prison – two are attractive, while the third can still do it.
Huawei said in a previous declaration that she “took these allegations seriously” and “has a zero tolerance policy with regard to corruption or other reprehensible acts”.
