Police say Ryan Mitchell Smith fled from a visitors’ stop at around 12.30pm with senior officers chasing a stolen van before crashing.

HOUSTON — The man accused of stabbing an Ok-9 police officer is on the loose again Tuesday less than two days after being released from prison.

Houston police mentioned Ryan Mitchell Smith26, fled from a visitor stop at around 12:30 a.m. with senior officers chasing a stolen van before crashing and fleeing near Memorial Park.

Police said they discovered a loaded weapon in the truck. It may possibly be related to a different crime.

Smith is accused of stabbing Ok-9 policeman Nate during an arrest Saturday morning in the 1600 block of Bass Street. Smith was charged with carjacking and theft.

Police say Nate was taken to an animal hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Nate has two years of service with HPD’s Tactical Operations Division.

On Monday evening, police announced that Nate had been discharged from the animal hospital and pick up at home.
