And this afternoon, the club, its supporters and the city will celebrate one of the best days in the history of Newcastle United.
The special teams Magpies of the eras of Kevin Keegan and Sir Bobby Robson got closer, but it was Eddie Howe and his players who finally delivered silverware.
They will forever be heroes on Tyneside for what they have done.

Seventy years since their last domestic trophy – and two years after a final defeat of the overwhelming Cup against Manchester United – Newcastle was Western Winners.

Alexander Isak of Newcastle United won the victory with their team’s second goal
