How Vanessa Bryant celebrated her late daughter Gigi on her 18th birthday

Vanessa Bryant‘s heart flutters as she remembers her and Kobe Bryantthe late daughter Gianna “Gigi” Bryant.

In honor of what would have been Gigi’s 18th birthday on May 1, Vanessa revealed a special edition Nike Kobe 8 “Mambacita,” the sneakers based on the teen’s nickname.

The new design featured black butterflies on a white background with gold accents, including a heart-shaped pendant bearing the “Mambacita” logo. The design also included Gigi’s name and her basketball jersey number written in black letters on the heel of the shoe.

“MAMBACITA,” Vanessa wrote on Instagram. “GIGI 01/05/2006.”

On her Instagram Stories, the 41-year-old re-shared a video from Nike explaining the meaning of the pattern.

“Gigi was a game changer,” the company’s message read, explaining that the butterflies symbolize “the transformational impact she had on showcasing women’s sports.”
