How to check if your carrier has already enabled RCS support in iOS 18

One of the big changes in iOS 18 is support for RCS, allowing for significantly better messaging between iPhone and Android users. With the release of iOS 18 beta 2 earlier this week, carriers in the US have started enabling RCS for iPhone beta testers.

Wondering if your carrier supports RCS on iPhone? Here’s how to check.

How to check if your carrier supports RCS on iOS 18

Follow these steps to check for RCS support on your iPhone:

  1. Open settings
  2. Tap “General”
  3. Tap “About”
  4. Scroll down and look for eSIM/network details
  5. Press “Operator”

When you tap “Operator”, the interface should refresh to show the “IMS Status” details. If your carrier has enabled RCS support, you will see “Voice, SMS and RCS”. If your carrier hasn’t enabled RCS, you’ll just see “Voice & SMS.”

Another thing to do is enable RCS in the Settings app. This option was enabled by default for me, but your results may vary:

  1. Open settings
  2. Scroll down and tap “Apps”
  3. Scroll down and tap “Messages”
  4. Enable the “RCS Messaging” setting

If you don’t have RCS support yet, don’t worry. iOS 18 is still in beta testing, and carriers will continue to roll out support for the feature before iOS 18 is publicly released in September.

RCS enables features like read receipts, typing indicators, high-quality images and videos, and more for messaging between iPhone and Android.
