After a long electoral cycle, India is ready to welcome its new government. The results of the Lok Sabha 2024 survey will be released on Tuesday (June 4) while the voting count reveals the winners and the losers.
Uttar Pradesh (UP) will be a very monitored state over the results. The state of the North has given the greatest number of prime ministers in India. Outgoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also elected from the district of Varanasi Lok Sabha of the UP in 2014 and 2019.
Let’s take a closer look.
The importance of the UP in LS polls
Uttar Pradesh is the most populous state in India, including 17% of the country’s population, according to the 2011 census. It also sends 80 members to Lok Sabha – the highest of all states.
The deputies of the increase represent 20% of the low house in Parliament. At 48, the Maharashtra has the second largest number of deputies.
India has 15 prime ministers since independence in August 1947. Among these, nine PMS were elected to the Lok Sabha of the Uttar Pradesh.
Political experts have long believed that Delhi’s route goes through the Uttar Pradesh. “It is commonly said that” the path to Delhi is through “and a part that does well in the state generally continues to govern India,” said Sharat Pradhan, a main journalist from Lucknow, said BBC.
However, the PV congress Narasimha Rao broke this model in 1991 when the party won only five of the 84 seats of Lok Sabha from Up. He still trained the government in the center.
Congress link in Up
The state is significant for the Nehru-Gandhi family. Motilal Nehru, father of the first PM in India, Jawaharlal Nehru, was born in Agra. He practiced law in the city before moving to Allahabad (now Prayagraj), according to a Indian Express report.
The birthplace of his son Jawaharlal is Allahabad. The daughter of the first PM in India, Indira Gandhi, was also born here.
Nehru was elected three times from the constituency of Phulpur Lok Sabha of Up in 1951, 1957 and 1962. After his death, his sister Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit represented the siege twice in 1964 and 1967.
Lal Bahadur Shastri, who became the second Prime Minister of India, was elected from the siege of Allahabad Lok Sabha.
Rae Bareli, considered a bastion of the congress, sent Indira Gandhi to the Lok Sabha. She was PM from India from 1966 to 1977. She returned to the first position in 1980, winning Rae Bareli and Andhra Pradesh Medak. Gandhi abandoned the high seat and kept Medak.
With the exception of Narasimha Rao, who represented the Nandyal of Andhra Pradesh as PM, and Manmohan Singh – a deputy for Rajya Sabha of Rajasthan and Assam, all the leaders of the Congress were elected to their mandate in as long as Prime Minister of India noted Indian Express.
While the Congress has been associated with UP for decades, the state has not always taken the side of the party.
In 1977, the party of Indira Gandhi, the Congress (R), failed to ensure a single seat in UP, with her and her son, Rajiv, losing their constituencies of Rae Bareli and Amethi respectively, according to Indian Express.
Rajiv Gandhi, who became PM of India after the assassination of his mother, had recorded a landslide victory in the district of Amethi in 1984.
Congress was a force majeure in the Uttar Pradesh for more than three decades before local parties started to gain ground in the 1990s. After the Modi wave, the Grand Old Party was reduced to a single seat – Rae Bareli won by Sonia Gandhi – during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
This time, Congress challenged the general elections in alliance with the Samajwadi party (SP).

Up is a key condition for BJP
The Uttar Pradesh will play a key role in making Modi a triple Prime Minister if the BJP returns to power.
The Safran Party won more than 50 UP seats in the general elections of 1991, 1996 and 1998. The late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the first BJP leader to be sworn as PM, had won Lucknow in the polls of 1996.
About The HindusThe electoral gains of the BJP increased with its UP performance. However, the party counting in the state fell to a record hollow of 29 seats in the 1999 elections. In 2004, the saffron party lost steam in the middle of the rise of regional parties like SP and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
The BJP emerged again as a dominant force in the state after Modi became the PM of India for the first time in 2014.

Realizing the importance of the State, Modi, from the western state of Gujarat, chose Varanasi from its beginnings by Lok Sabha in 2014.
Modi was re -elected from the city of the Temple in 2019, beating Shalini Yadav de SP by 479,505 votes.
The BJP won 71 UP seats in 2014 and 62 in the 2019 polls. The Safran party is targeting more than 70 state seats this time.
The other PMS of the UP include Charan Singh by Janata Party, Vishwanath Pratap Singh of Janata Dal and Chandra Shekhar of Janata Dal (Samajwadi).
With the goal of the bjp of ‘400 paar`This time, it remains to be seen how the Safran party behaves in UP, which according to Bbcis considered “the greatest price” of Indian elections.
