Prince Harry was accused of intimidation after having resigned from a charitable organization which he co -founded almost 20 years ago.
Sentebale was launched by the Duke of Sussex – in honor of his mother, Princess Diana – and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho in 2006 to help children and young people in Africa, especially those who live HIV and AIDS. The work has been described as an integral part of Harry’s life of adults and a source of great pride for him for almost two decades.
All this stopped on Wednesday, when Harry and Prince Seeiso published a joint statement saying that they were “really the broken heart” but would resign from their roles of customers in Sentebale following a dispute with Dr. Sophie Chandauka, a lawyer appointed in 2023.
“These trustee acted in the best interest of the chair to ask the chair to resign, while keeping in mind the well-being of the staff. By turning, she continued the charity to stay in this voluntary position, further stressing the broken relationship,” said Harry and Seeiso. “We thank all the administrators for their service over the years and we really have a broken heart that they had to continue this act.”
“What happened is unthinkable. We are in shock that we must do, but we have a continuous responsibility towards the beneficiaries of Sentebale, we will therefore share all our concerns concerning the Charitable Commission on the way in which this happened,” continued the press release.
Dr. Chandauka has now started talking about his experience as president of Sentebale. Talk Financial timeThe lawyer said she first felt tensions with Prince Harry a year ago.
She accused Harry of wanting to “force a failure, then come to the rescue”, and also said that the Duke’s team had asked her to defend his wife, Meghan, against negative advertising. “I said no, we do not define a precedent by which we become an extension of the Sussex PR machine,” she said.
Things worsened for Harry when Chandauka spoke to Sky News on Sunday and criticized the management by the duke of his resignation, describing it as “harassment and large -scale intimidation”. She also alleged that he was “involved” in the concealment of an investigation into the harassment and misogyny of the charity, saying: “The number one risk for this organization was the toxicity of the brand of its leader.”
She maintained that her work was “guided by the principles of equity and fair treatment for all” and that she had reported the administrators to the UK Charity Commission, an independent department which regulates charities operating in Great Britain.
Sentebale, on the other hand, confirmed a restructuring of its board of directors.
A source close to the former trustees and customers described the accusations of Dr Chandauka as “an advertising”: “They remain firm in their resignation, for the good of the charitable organization, and impatiently await the decision of the truth,” said the source The Hollywood Reporter.
THR contacted Sentebale to comment.
