The sun won’t be the only one to disappear Monday afternoon.
New York’s liquor and beer distributors are dropping Eclipse-branded hooch just in time for the big event, and Total Area bars are throwing big parties as SUNY school fraternities prepare to host raging keggers.
Luke Kapczak, 21, a sophomore at SUNY Oswego, told the Post that “the eclipse is all anyone talks about” on campus, and school officials had canceled classes Monday after noon so students can make the most of the day by partying in the dark.
“People are excited that there’s no classes, and obviously there’s going to be parties,” Kapczak said, adding, “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing. “
“I’ll probably wake up early, around 9 a.m., and usually I won’t know what’s going on until Friday, Saturday, I’ll have an exact idea of who’s going to have a (party),” he said. he declares. the undergraduate said Wednesday.
“I guess Sig Tau, one of the biggest fraternities on campus, will have a party, because they usually do things like that, (with) a few other fraternities,” Kapczak said, adding that non-Greek students would be welcome.
“It’s literally on their lawn, so you just show up, have a little drink, eat… They bring out a few tables, there’s pong, (drinking) games, whatever, and probably people will usually from there to the next place. They are really close to the main street where all the bars are.
Edward Olszewski, 20, is also a sophomore at SUNY Oswego and plans to enjoy the holidays.
“For the actual day, I’ll probably be in one of the fraternities,” Olszewski said.
“There’s definitely going to be a party.” I know there will also be a little thing on campus, with food I think and music. I know it’s happening on campus, but I’m obviously not going to go there; I will be with my boys.
Olszewski added that he plans to stop by the on-campus event to get a free pair of protective glasses, necessary to prevent visual damage even if you wear beer goggles.
The Lake Ontario college town of 17,000 was expecting some 6,000 tourists for the big event, Kapczak said.
“I know from some of my other friends that some of their friends are coming to spend the day.”
When asked if any of his friends would come to Oswego for the occasion, Olszewski replied, “No, but I really wish they would!” I really wish they would.
Captain Jack’s Goodtime Tavern in Rochester kicks off the party with a “Total Eclipse of the Heart” singing competition at 1 p.m. Monday, followed by eclipse karaoke – featuring songs about the sun and the moon.
Patrick’s Rooftop in Buffalo is selling $25 tickets to view the event from the city’s highest bar and terrace — a bargain compared to some Manhattan viewing spots that charge more than $100 to see which will only be a partial eclipse.

Outside of town, Lake Erie Wine County is hosting a “Lights Out” tour in the path of totality, and the party started early – three days early. And partygoers who stayed home and listened to Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon” are also being marketed to eclipse-themed alcohol.
Adirondack breweries sold drinks like the “Total Eclipse of the Park,” a black IPA brewed by the Lake Placid Pub.
Raquette River Brewing in Tupper Lake is also offering a Black IPA on tap for the occasion, according to WCAX.
“The sky is going to go black for three minutes, so we thought why not make a black IPA,” Tanner Hockey of the brewery was quoted as saying.
A wine representative introduced the Radius Red Blend Eclipse to the Post and claimed its “notes of dark fruit and vanilla, (make it) the perfect watch companion.”
“Whether you’re traveling to observe it or hosting a watch party at home, it’s important to choose a drink as dark and dramatic as an eclipse to take the experience to the next level,” said Rodolphe Boulanger, vice-president of New Merchandising of world wines at Total Wine & More.
TINCUP Bourbon is selling a “Totality Bundle” for a Total Eclipse Sour cocktail that “aims to evoke the same sense of wonder and excitement (as the eclipse), making it a perfect addition to any gathering or party on the eclipse theme.
The libation “is the outdoor brand of whiskey, so celebrating the eclipse is natural for them,” the company said.
Other drinks associated with the blackout include Mount Gay Eclipse – a Barbados rum named after a 1910 total solar eclipse visible above the Caribbean nation and Bell’s Oberon Eclipse, which is “quite tasty and easy to drink,” according to Beer Advocate.com.
However, with normal life expected to resume Tuesday morning, teachers and employers may not be too forgiving of hungover partygoers, something Olszewski keeps in mind.
“I think it’ll be more of a chill time, maybe have four beers, hang out with friends, more of a chill get together, I would say – more than getting criticized and getting angry, you know ?”, did he declare.
