How much snow is expected statewide on Tuesday

Snow continues to fall across Colorado on Tuesday, and forecasters said the metro area could see several more inches accumulate before the storm passes.

Light to moderate snow will persist across the Interstate 25 corridor, Denver area and eastern Plains for several hours Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters said the snow was expected to thin around 9 a.m. and dry in the afternoon. The snow is expected to end around noon in Denver and its surrounding suburbs, which is when the winter weather advisory also expires.

The advisory, which covers the Denver area, southern Front Range foothills, Castle Rock, Greeley, Byers and Limon, says the heaviest snowfall Tuesday will occur during the morning commute.

As of 5 a.m. Tuesday, 1 1/2 inches of snow had accumulated at Denver International Airport and snow forecasts called for another 2 to 5 inches by 11 p.m.

According to the NWS snow forecast, between 5 a.m. and 11 p.m. Tuesday, another:

• 2 to 6 inches of snow is expected in downtown Denver, Arvada, Aurora, Brighton, Broomfield, Centennial, Highlands Ranch, Littleton, Northglenn and Parker;
• 3 to 6 inches of snow are expected in Boulder, Castle Rock and Lakewood;
• 1 inch of snow expected in Vail and Breckenridge;
• 1 to 4 inches of snow expected in Colorado Springs;
• 3 to 5 inches of snow is expected in the San Juan Mountains of southern Colorado, including Red Mountain Pass and Molas Pass, and the Park Range Mountains of central Colorado;
• 4 to 8 inches is expected in the Sangre de Cristo Range of the Rocky Mountains in southern Colorado, including Bushnell Peak and South Colony.

Even after the snow ends, the cold will persist, NWS forecasters said in a report on the hazardous weather conditions.

Nighttime temperatures will drop to the single digits Tuesday across the Eastern Plains and metro area and below minus
10 and minus 20 in high mountain valleys, according to the forecast.
