The winners of the US Open will pocket generous checks this year, divided from a record $75 million purse for the final Grand Slam tennis tournament of the season. The total amount is 15% higher than in 2023.
The checks awarded to the men’s and women’s singles champions could be awarded to American players.
Although it is not yet known who the winners will be, two Americans, Emma Navarro and Jessica Pegula, have reached the semifinals, with Pegula winning her match, earning a spot in the final. I happen to have fathers who are billionaires. On the men’s side, another American could also win the trophy — and first place — for the first time since Andy Roddick won the tournament in 2003. Americans Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe will face off in one of two semifinal matches on Friday.
The winners of the women’s and men’s singles draws will each receive a check worth $3.6 million, a 20% increase from the $3 million the winners earned in 2023. The runners-up in each event, or runners-up, will receive $1.8 million this year, according to official figures from the tournament in Queens, New York. The four semifinalists in both singles draws will each receive $1 million. This year also marks the 50th anniversary of equal prize money for men and women at the tournament.
US Open winners earn more than Wimbledon champions, who each won £2.7 millionor just over $3.4 million, a substantial increase of nearly 15% from 2023, according to official prize money figures released by the grass-court tournament.
At the US Open, singles players who reach the round of 128, also known as first-round losers in the main draw, also win cash prizes. The distribution of prize money is as follows:
- Round of 16: $325,000
- 1/32: $215,000
- Round 64: $140,000
- Tower 128: $100,000
Doubles players earn significantly less. The winning teams in the women’s and men’s doubles each receive $750,000, to be split between the two players. The second-place teams receive $375,000 each. The winners of the mixed doubles event take home $200,000, while the second-place team receives a check for $100,000.
The women’s final will take place on Saturday, September 7, while the men’s championship match will be played on Sunday.
